In anglophone countries and among students of French, you always notice a lot of mistakes in the use of French. Students try to translate English to French in their minds before saying it out but some of the translations are wrong. Anglophone students try to allow English to influence their French. This case is not only related to anglophones but to francophone students. Here, we will talk about the influence of English on French, some errors made by anglophone students and we will try to make necessary corrections.
One day, I was with a friend, she wanted to go ease herself and she wanted to say it in French since we were discussing in French, she said: "Je suis pressée". Now, she allowed the English word-pressed to influence her French. Another one is this: people say "mon frère ne veut pas me supporter" to mean "my brother does not want to support me" Actually, the verb "supporter" means "to bear" -meaning, "my brother does not want to bear me". The correct thing to say here is "mon frère ne veut pas me soutenir" and je ne peux pas supporter le mon mari"- "I can't stand my husband", "Je ne peux plus supporter cette attitude".
As an anglophone, when you want to speak French, try as much as possible not to allow your English influence your French. Do not keep it in yourself either-say it out, make mistakes and correct yourself when you notice it.
